How to prepare household appliances for examination

What to avoid repairing before inspection and which documents to keep.

Before inspection, it is advisable not to repair the appliance, discard parts or remove labels and seals; keep the packaging and documents. Any intervention may make the original cause of the defect harder to establish.

What to prepare

  • receipt, warranty card, contract, work order;
  • service centre records and correspondence with the seller;
  • photos and videos showing the fault;
  • information about operating conditions, connection and repairs;
  • documents about an accident, flooding or voltage surge, if available.

Practical conclusion

The earlier the object is preserved in its original condition and the more complete the documentation, the easier it is to establish cause and effect through expert analysis and prepare a convincing report.

Prepare a brief history of use

State the purchase date, first use, first symptom and service enquiries. List repairs, updates and component replacements separately. The timeline helps compare the present defect with changes in the appliance's condition without assuming a proven connection.

Provide a complete set of relevant information

Provide documents identifying the model and serial number, instructions, intake and return records and a description of the mode in which the problem occurs. If the symptom appears only with an accessory or particular connection, say so before arranging inspection.

  • Keep original videos showing the fault.
  • Do not disassemble or clean away important traces before examination.
  • Note missing components and any interventions already carried out.
  • Do not reproduce a dangerous mode merely to obtain another recording.

A preliminary description helps identify the materials needed. It does not replace examination of the object or allow a particular cause or dispute outcome to be promised in advance.

Enquiry to the expert

Describe the appliance and attach documents

Specify the model, purchase date, fault and what the seller or service centre has already done. Photos, receipts, records and claims help assess the prospects more quickly.

The form cannot be submitted without consent to personal data processing.
